GRANT EXPENDITURE SENSITIZATION TRAINING

College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences staff led by the Principal CAVS, Prof Rose Nyikal on Friday, 6th November, 2020 was virtually trained on utilization of grant expenditure Authorization to Incur Expenditure (AIE)AIE is a tool used by the University of Nairobi in processing Grants transactions.

PHD STUDENT BENJAMIN K. NYILITYA SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS HIS THESIS VIRTUALY

Benjamin K. Nyilitya successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Nitrate source apportionment in surface and groundwater of the Lake Victoria basin in Kenya” on Monday October 19, 2020 at 17.00 EAT. The public defense was conducted online with the members of the Jury seated in Belgium, Germany and Kenya.

SCOPING MISSION IN PREPARATION FOR DR-SRM PROJECT KICK OFF IN SAMBURU COUNTY

Dr.SM Mureithi of Department of LARMAT, University of Nairobi accompanied by the Country Director of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Suisse (VSF-Suisse) ,(Kenya and Somalia) and Eric Rosana of VSF-Suisse Kenya are on a four day (from 2nd November, 2020)  scoping mission in Samburu County in preparation for the start of implementating the  “Building Drought Resilience in Samburu Through Sustainable Rangelands Management (DR-SRM) Project.

CLASSROOM LECTURES TO BEGIN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI

Face to face, Teaching & Learning will resume on 9th November 2020 for 1st Years in College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) College of Architecture and Engineering (CAE), College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS), College of Education & External Studies (CEES)-Kenya Science Campus & College of Health Sciences (CHS).

BUTTERFLY FARMING;ASSESSMENT OF STATUS OF GEF- SGP FUNDED PROJECTS

Dr. Judith Mbau, a lecturer in this department  on 6th October, 2020 visited local community of Kilifi county. The meeting aimed at assessing the status of GEF- SGP funded projects whose purpose is to create sustainable landscapes by restoring ecosystems while supporting community livelihoods in the county. Farmers have embraced butterfly farming within the buffer zone of Kaya Kauma in Kilifi County. Both the youth and women have generated income via butterfly farming.

PROMOTING INNOVATION TO BUILD RESILIENCE AGAINST CLIMATE SHOCKS

Dr. Oliver Wasonga, A Senior Lecturer, in LARMAT was among 150 participants attended webinar on Knowledge Share Fair: Promoting innovation to build resilience against climate shocks. The webinar kicked off from 19th October 2020 to 23th October 2020. Dr. Wasonga chaired a session in this meeting on 20th October, 2020 which was very insightful to the participants.

POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATION

Five postgraduate students in this Department will be presenting their research proposals (Virtually) on 29th October 2020, presentations will be taking place on the second and last Thursday of the month with a quorum of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 students. Having met that criteria, you are therefore invited to a meeting on the above date and by extension on 5th November 2020, the 2nd Thursday for November for the next set of students. The list of students and their research topics will be shared during the presentation.

WEBINAR : PARTICIPATORY RANGELANDS MANAGEMENT

Participatory Rangeland Management (PRM) has been adopted as an approach for improved Rangeland management and to better secure rights to resources in pastoralist areas, improving not only technical inputs, but also strengthen governance and tenure security of Rangelands. These has been piloted in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia since 2019.
