STAFF AND STUDENTS PRESENTATION AND PARTICIPATION IN THE RANGELAND CONGRESS

Staff and postgraduate students from Department of Land Resource Management and agricultural technology (LAMAT) today 25th October, 2021 joined the world in the ongoing joint International Grassland and Rangeland congress. The theme of the Congress is “Sustainable Use of Grassland and Rangeland Resources for Improved Livelihoods.” 

JOINT STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP FOR DOWN2EARTH PROJECT

The Department of Land Resource Management & Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), University of Nairobi (UoN), IGAD Centre for Climate Prediction and Application (ICPAC) and Action Aid held a Joint Stakeholder Engagement Workshop for Down2Earth Project at El Boran Hotel in Isiolo from 11-15 October, 2021.

TWO MSC STUDENTS TRAINED IN THE EMERGING SCIENTIST PROGRAMME 2021

Elizabeth Githendu and Solomon Mugi, both students from the Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), pursuing MSC in Range Management, University of Nairobi participated in the Emerging Scientist 2021 two week training which was conducted in Maasai Mara, Narok County between September 15, 2021 and September 26, 2021. The training involved hands-on research design, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of research findings.

The training Kicked off on 27th September and ended today 15th October 2021

They are generally excited , motivated , energized  and acknowledge  this is the  best thing which has ever happened in their training at the university of Nairobi . The training is eye opening to me!

LAND NEGOTIATION FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LIVESTOCK CAFÉ IN CHEPUKAT, CHEPKOPEGH LOCATION, WEST POKOT COUNTY

Dr. Mureithi a Researcher, Ms. Margeret Nyaga (Student) from LARMAT and William Makokha from Triple L negotiated for a land for research work in West Pokot. The land will be used for establishment of livestock cafe. That the aim of the visit was to get authority and an agreement with the owner of the land together with the area administrative officers, community elders and the ministry of agriculture officers. KIBWEZI HORTIPRENEUR YOUTH GROUP (KHYG) - THE ARM FOR UNIVERSITY OUTREACH AND COOPERATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Kibwezi Hortipreneur Youth Group (KHYG) is an IITA initiative funded by the African Development Bank and IFAD is currently conducting Agribusiness farming at, UoN Kibwezi Dryland farm. The youth group consists of graduates from different fields mainly within Makueni County. Since 2015- to date, the youth have been carrying out agricultural/Horticultural entrepreneurship training and incubation activities in the said station through mentorship of Prof. Nancy Karanja (LARMAT, UON) and Dr.
