TWO-DAY DEPARTMENTAL ACCELERATED CURRICULUM REVIEW

Lectures of this department on 16th and 19th July  held an intensive 2 days discussion on curriculum review of all course taught in the Dept.of LARMAT. The aim of review is to reduce major overlaps of course contents and Descriptions with focus on Curriculum Rationale and Philosophy.

It was discovered some courses codes conflicts with other departments i.e. Department of Agricultural Economics.The Chairman from the two departments and the concerned lecturers to resolve.

27TH INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH SOCIETY CONFERENCE

KTTC STUDENTS TRAINED ON PLANT HERBARIUM SKILLS

Over 84 Trainers from Kenya Technical Training Institute (KTTC) yesterday 9th July 2021 were trained on  various Herbarium and Taxonomic  Techniques offered at the Department of LARMAT. 

The trained was facilitated by Ms Carolyne Kyalo. She retreated there is more opportunities in the industry and prospects of innovation in identification of plants and Digital herbarium will be the future of plant taxonomy.

FIELD WORK IS ON, AFTER COVID-19 LOCKDOWN

Healthy, functioning ecosystems are a prerequisite for human health and well-being. In the drylands of East Africa, pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities are highly reliant on ecosystem services for their livelihoods. In Drylands Transform (an SLU led project), we investigate the interlinkages between land health, livestock-based livelihoods, human well-being and land governance mechanisms to contribute to transformative change and sustainable development of the socio-ecological system in the drylands of East Africa.

PROF. RICHARD ONWONGA, APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF LARMAT DEPARTMENT

The Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi, has appointed Prof. Richard N. Onwonga  to serve as chairman of the Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) with effect from June 24, 2021. 

Prof. Onwonga is an accomplished member of staff with over ten years of teaching and research experience. This is in addition to supervision of postgraduate students, student mentorship and outreach services.
