FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE ADMITS FRESHERS FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER 2021/2022

These are ; Department of Land resource Management and Agricultural Technology, Department of Agricultural Economics , Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection and department of Food Science and Nutrition Technology. CALL FOR APPLICATION : PhD POSITION

The Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology, University of Nairobi, is looking for a PhD candidate to conduct studies on Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate change mitigation interventions in selected dryland ecosystems of Kenya.The study is aimed at strengthening capacity for reporting emissions and generation of data to support Monitoring Reporting and Verification systems (MRVs) for the drylands.

DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL FEED INVENTORY AND FEED BALANCE

Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) participated in the review and validation of national feed inventory and feed balance spearheaded by National Feed Secretariat at the State Department for Livestock. The development of the feed inventory and feed balance was made possible through support by FAO’s strategic programming in early warning systems.

LARMAT –UON DRAFTS NEW MUTUAL COLLABORATION WITH KEFRI

The team comprising of four researchers from University of Nairobi and five officers from KEFRI visited the Station for purposes of deliberating on formulation of a Memorandum of Association (MOA) for partnership between the two institutions. The visit that lasted from August 30th to September 1st 2021 included tours to the KEFRI Kibwezi Facilities (tree nursery, laboratory, offices and orchard within UoN field Station), nearby model farmer and UoN Kibwezi Field Station facilities.

TRAINING ON DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY CROSS-BORDER NATURAL RESOURCE USE, SHARING AND MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT IN MANDERA COUNTY

Dr. Oscar Koech, Lecturer from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) provided technical training to trainees from Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya within the Mandera Triangle. The training covered Cross-border natural resource management by the communities and the guidelines for developing a cross border resource sharing agreement.
