CONGRATULATIONS LARMAT GRADUANDS: 70TH UON GRADUATION CEREMONY

The following five postgraduate students from the  Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology having successfully completed their respective degree programmes, were among the thousands of students  conferred with degrees during the 70th UoN Graduation Ceremony, held on 15th December 2023.

 

2 MSC CALL FOR APPLICATION -ASSESSING SOIL ORGANIC CARBON STOCKS AND FLUXES UNDER HOLISTIC PLANNED AND TRADITIONAL GRAZING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN RANGELANDS OF KENYA (SMARTGRAZE)

SMARTGRAZE is funded through the RUFORUM GRA Graduate Research Grants. The project seeks to investigate the impacts of holistic planned grazing (HPG) on carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrious oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emissions, soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil properties, biomass production, diversity and nutritional quality, and livestock forage preferences in a semi-arid rangeland of Kajiado County, Kenya. Data will be collected from plots under HPG system and traditional grazing during the wet and dry seasons.

RICHARD OSALIYA SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS HIS PHD THESIS

Mr. Richard Osaliya successfully defended his PhD thesis titled: “Impact of Land Use/Cover and Climate Change on Surface Water Resources in Semi-Arid Lokok and Lokere Catchments, Uganda” during a virtual oral examination convened by the Faculty of Agriculture on November 3, 2021. PhD STUDENT IN DRYLAND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS THESIS

Mr . Murongo Marius Flarian, a Ugandan PhD student in LARMAT, yesterday on 10th August 2021, Successfully defended his PhD thesis. His Research study was on Farmer Perception, and soil factors influencing tissue culture Banana adoption and productivity in Smallholder farms in Uganda”.

PHD AND MSC RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATIONS

Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy students pursuing various degree programmes in this department virtually presented their research proposals to their fellow students and supervisors. According to UoN graduate school guidelines, all postgraduate students must produce progress report and this can be possible if their research work is shared and presented to supervisors and any other invited actor. Over 27 participants were in attendance. Their supervisors were impressed on improved research work enhanced by presentation skills.

PHD AND MSC STUDENTS TO BE CONFERRED DEGREES IN THE UON 63RD GRADUATION CEREMONY

POLICY BRIEF: MAKING DEVOLUTION WORK FOR LIVESTOCK TRADING IN NORTHERN KENYA

This briefing paper was authored by Philemon O. Ngasike-A PhD student in Dryland Resource Management in LARMAT, It summarizes key findings produced during a stakeholder workshop entitled ‘Devolution and its Impacts on Livestock Trade in Northern Kenya’ held in Nairobi on 29 October 2019. County, national and international policymakers and practitioners attended the workshop.
