THE WONDER TREE: MORINGA OLOIFERA - A MULTIPURPOSE TREE

Dr Oscar K. Koech from  University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) believes there’s reason for the oil retailing at such exorbitant price from Moringa tree. “Maybe they are following some of the benefits of the ingredients in terms of diet or the components of health that is in the oil,” he says. One litre of oil extracted from moringa seeds costs Sh 8,000 at Emuka Moringa Farmers’ Cooperative Society Shop, located in Emali town, Makueni County.

CALL FOR APPLICATION: AGROECOLOGY AND AGROBIODIVERSITY TRAINING COURSE 2022

We are pleased to announce call for applications for undergraduate students in  third year of study in East African universities.  This will be a  blended training  via online, face to face lectures and field based practical sessions on Agroecology and Agrobiodiversity (AA).

The training will take place from 14th August to 9th September 2022

The aim of this exercise to help these communities in identifying potential plant and grass species for the restoration degraded lands in which their livestock’s depends on.

DOES RANGELAND MANAGEMENT HAS IMPACT ON FOOD SECURITY

Dr.Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) provided a talk during a webinar organized by Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) in relation to Covid -19 and other Health issues. Dr. Koech provided a talk on Rangelands in the Wake of Climate Change: Need for Research and Innovations for Sustainable Rangelands Productivity.

ROLE OF RANGELANDS IN SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) provided a lecture on Rangeland Ecosystems the Wake of Climate Change. The Webinar was organized by Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Kenya and Farmers Association of Community Self Help Investment Groups (FACHIG) Trust from Zimbabwe.
