THE 7TH AFRICAN HIGHER EDUCATION WEEK AND RUFORUM TRIENNIAL CONFERENCE TAKES PLACE

Dr. Anne Karuma from the University of Nairobi’s  LARMAT Department is attending the 7th African Higher Education Week and RUFORUM Triennial Conference in Cotonou, Benin from 6th – 10th December 2021. The conference brings together diverse and key stakeholders for academic development.

THE 17TH COMPREHENSIVE AFRICA AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM TAKES PLACE

Prof, Charles Gachene of the University of Nairobi’s  LARMAT Department  was one of the  invited participants in the High-Level Dialogue on the Soils Information System” that was organized as a side event of the 17th Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Program – Partnership Platform (CAADP-PP)The high-level forum was held on 24th Nov 2021.  

SOIL SCIENTIST PROFESSOR PASSION FOR SUPPLEMENTAL DRIP IRRIGATION TO AGRO- PASTORAL COMMUNITIES

Prof Charles Gachene from LARMAT on 16th and 17th November, 2021 led stakeholders meetings on supplemental Irrigated Agriculture for crop production in the agro pastoral communities of Chumvi village, Laikipia County. The objective of the proactive activity was for familiarise the team with the project site and discussion meetings with potential stakeholders.

LARMAT JOINS KENYA RANGELANDS RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION ACTION GROUP

The Kenya Rangeland Restoration and Conservation Action Group was formed as a follow up to the Kenya National Landscape Restoration Scaling Conference held on 9th to 16th July, 2021, where it was recognised that there is a need for special attention to rangeland restoration in Kenya. The conference stimulated a lot of discussions, chief of them, the need to accelerate the momentum of landscape restoration in Kenya by bringing together and linking multiple dimensions of the efforts.

DOWN2EARTH PROJECT HOLDS A METHODOLOGY REVIEW & PILOT SURVEY WORKSHOP

DOWN2EARTH Project is a collaborative research project funded by European Union, led by the Cardiff University and includes University of Bristol, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, University of Hohenheim, University of Nairobi, Addis Ababa University, IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC), Ghent University, University of East Anglia, Food and Agriculture Organization-Somalia Water and Land Information System (FAO-SWALIM), Climate Analytics, BBC Media Action, Action Aid, and Transparency Solutions.

LARMAT PART OF THE APP DEVELOPMENT TEAM FOR THE DOWN2EARTH PROJECT

Translation of climate information into multilevel decision support for social adaptation, policy development, and resilience to water scarcity in the Horn of Africa Drylands (DOWN2EARTH) Project seeks to address the multi-faceted challenges of water scarcity and food insecurity under climate change in Horn of Africa Drylands, by facilitating community-centered adaptation and resilience to climate change impacts. The project is funded by European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme.

LARMAT PART OF THE SOCIO-ECOLOGICAL CHANGES AND CONFLICTING VISIONS AT FRONTIERS OF DEVELOPMENT IN EAST AFRICA CONFERENCE

The University of Nairobi's,  Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) was part of the attendees of the “Socio-Ecological Changes and Conflicting Visions at Frontiers of Development in East Africa” conference held on 18th November 2021. The Department was represented by Dr. Oliver Vivian Wasonga, a Senior lecturer.
