Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) participated in the Shared conferences between Argentina and Kenya under FOAR project “Improving livestock production in Kenya”. The meeting had a discussion on Strategies to improve forage production in arid rangelands as practiced in Argentina, Emiliano Quiroga, INTA Catamarca Explained. Another issue discussed was the Strategies applied in the Kenyan DryLands to overcome forage shortages as presented by Bosco Kidake, KALRO Kiboko and PhD student in this Department. From the brief analysis of the technical presentations and introduction to the questions by Juan Pablo Alberghini, Abraham Sangula it revealed that feed shortage is still a big problem to both countries and there is need to develop technologies for feed production and conservation to support the pastoral communities. Climate change has also become a major threat to production systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
