Realizing full agricultural potential in Africa’s food systems requires significant technological, organizational and institutional paradigm shifts in the face of contemporary challenges. The desired technological changes include the management of genetic, soil, water, and energy resources, which has so far been the mandate of agricultural research.

The African Climate and Environment Center – Future African Savannas (AFAS) is one of eight Global Centres for Climate and Environment funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). AFAS is hosted conjointly at the University of Nairobi (UoN) with its Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation (ICCA) in Kenya and the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (UFHB) with its African Centre of Excellence on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture (CEACCBAD) in Côte d’Ivoire.
