PROSOPIS JULIFORA (MEZQUITE) SEED PODS FLOUR MEAL FOR POULTRY FEED QUALITY AND END PRODUCT EVALUATION

Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) participated in the collection of Prosopis pods materials for research purpose in support of the GCRF Interdisciplinary Research Project Award 2019, the University of Nottingham collaborated with the University of Nairobi and other partners from Mexico and Tanzania, in a joint proposal development which was successful for the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) 2019.  The joint project is entitled “Studying the Use of Mezquite to Improve Welfare of Communities in Arid and Semi-arid Zones of the World” (RIS CONTRACT REF 2418006 / RIS PROJECT REF 1775401). The project component for Kenya is being implemented by the University of Nairobi and Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI-Marigat station). The harvested material is for research purposes only, to study the nutritional, anti-nutritional, structural and toxicological properties of Prosopis sp pods under poultry feeding experiments at the University of Nottingham.
