Sessions on progress

Ms. Carolyne Kyalo on 29th and 30th May 2023, participated in the Animal Production Professionals and Technicians (APP&T) Bill 2023 held at Semara Hotel ,Machakos. The draft bill, to be enacted by the Parliament of Kenya, was officially launched on 8th May 2023 by Harry Kimtai, the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development. This Bill, when enacted, will provide a framework for training, registration and licensing of animal production professionals and technicians, and regulation of the standards and practice of the animal production profession and associated purposes. The Bill will also guide the professionals in the development and growth of the livestock sector.

This was an interactive session in which submissions to the draft  AAPT Bill were deliberated. Public Stakeholders and consultants were drawn from Public and Private Universities, County Officers of Nyandarua, Muranga, Kiambu, Machakos, Kitui, State department of livestock, KALRO, Animal society of Kenya, Private animal practitioners, From the University of Nairobi, Dr, Rawlynce Bett from department of Animal production was present. It was resolved that animal production professionals, should have a background in Animal production, Animal Production and health, Animal Science, Range management, Dairy Science and technology, Dryland Resource Management and any other relevant field deemed fit for the purpose of the act.
