The Bachelors Science in Dryland Economics and Agro-Ecosystem Management is conceptualized and designed to produce manpower that is expected to contribute towards redressing unique constraints limiting the productivity in dryland ecosystem. Despite the Region holding about 26% of sub-Saharan population, it is prone to recurrent hazards such as droughts and floods making it one of the most vulnerable regions on the African continent to climate variability and change.
Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the Kenyan economy in terms of providing food, employment, foreign exchange and ecosystem services. Expansion of agriculture is therefore necessary particularly for an agro-based economy such as Kenya’s. This requires well-trained manpower not only to generate and disseminate new agricultural technologies and manage varied agricultural value chains but also contribute to policy design and implementation.
