OFFERING SUPPORT TO RANGELANDS FOR SUSTAINABLE MAASAI MARA ECOSYSTEM

Training on species frequency determination

Many times we watch and abet land degradation in Maasai Mara, through overgrazing exacerbated by lack of early land degradation warning system. Urgent Rehabilitation efforts are needed to save the renowned Maasai Mara Landscape. Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA). In partnership with the University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology, efforts are being mad to strengthen rangeland management through effective monitoring and assessment for all conservancies in the Landscape. Thus, follow-up and training was done to bring conservancy managers and rangeland monitoring officers for intensive hands-on training and support the selected conservancies to set up long term monitoring sites within their conservancies. The technical support to monitoring seeks to enhance decision making for conservancies as well as build their ability to monitor changes and trends based on their management plans. The series of training is being facilitated by Dr. Oscar Koech as team lead with Forest ecology technical backup by Ms. Carolyne Kyalo and John Musembi.
