INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL COURSE 2023: DIGITAL INNOVATIONS FOR CLIMATE SMART AGRI-FOOD SYSTEM

The International Virtual Course 2023 (IVC 2023): “Tackling Climate Change through Global Learning” kicked-off on July 3, 2023. IVC 2023 is collaborative course that brings together lecturers and postgraduate students from Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Switzerland; University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenya; the Universidade Federal de Grande Dourados (UFGD), Brazil; and University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore (UASB), India. An exciting part of the course is the climate action group, where students from the 4 countries team to identify a climate related problem and propose an innovative solution for it. Each group is assigned a coach depending on the selected topic. The coaching exercise involves analysis of state of the art and experiences that inform the problem of focus and prioritized climate action innovation. The students are required to submit a 10-page proposal highlighting the problem, justification and evidence, proposed technical innovation, and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the proposed solution. Prof. Oliver Vivian Wasonga from the Department of Land Resources Management and Agricultural technology ( LARMAT) is currently coaching the group seeking technological answer to the question: “How can we leverage on digital innovations for a climate-resilient agriculture.
