GRAZING MANAGEMENT PLANNING FOR COMMUNITIES IN SAMBURU COUNTY

Completed Rangeland Resource Map in Sirata Lengamarita Village, Samburu County

The Department of LARMAT in partnership with VSF-Suisse has been supporting communities’ capacity
building on sustainable rangeland management under Biovision-funded Building Drought Resilience in
Samburu Through Sustainable Rangelands Management (DR-SRM) project. Through the project, County
Government officials have been trained to impart sustainable rangeland management knowledge and
skills to the larger pastoralist communities in Samburu County.

A follow up visit to Lengusaka, Sirata Lengamarita, Lerata and Lentanai villages in Samburu County by Dr.
Oliver Vivian Wasonga and Dr. Oscar Koech between March 14 and 19, 2022, reveals success in practical
skills transfer to the communities.

Following a series of trainings by the UoN team, the herders are already applying the skills in rangeland
resource mapping, and have delineated grazing blocks and developed grazing management plans ready
for implementation.
