REGIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON ADVANCED CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES AND INTEGRATED CROPPING LIVESTOCK SYSTEM FOR ENHANCED CROP AND LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION

The 5th of December 2022 was the World Soil Day! Researchers and experts from Africa (Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Rwanda, Mauritius, Mauritania, Ghana, Morocco, Algeria, Congo Brazzaville, South Africa, Uganda, Coted'ivoire, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Zambia)  held a meeting in Kenya to Learn and exchange knowledge on Sustainable soil management, Nutrient management and application of Nuclear Technologies in Land/soil Management for decision making. The conference was supported by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and was organized by KALRO and University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT). Dr. Zaman Mohammed (IAEA) Dr. Oscar Koech (UoN) and Ms Elizabeth Okwosa (KALRO –Muguga) facilitated the event. Key message, we need to embrace technology to solve land degradation and increase Productivity Sustainably. The participants were learning on how to address poor soil fertility, low crop productivity, nutrient mining, climate change and poor water use efficiency on farm in Africa and the role of nuclear techniques.  In attendance to the training from the UoN was Dr. Ann Karuma-Soil Scientist, and MSC alumni from LARMAT, Mr. Walter Wafula and Ms. Angela W.Maina.
