STAFF PARTICIPATES IN THE WORLD SOIL DAY/ FOOD SYSTEMS AND LAND USE ACTION PLAN (2024 – 2030) LAUNCH

Dr. Anne Karuma, a Soil Scientist and Lecturer in the department Dr. Anne Karuma, a Soil Scientist and Lecturer in the department of Land Resources Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), , actively participated in the launch of The World Soil Day/Kenya Food Systems and Land Use Action Plan (2024 - 2030) held at The Radisson Blue Upper Hill in Nairobi, Kenya. The event commemorated World Soil Day on December 5th was organized by The Food and Land Use Coalition – Kenya Country Platform in collaboration with the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The diverse audience at the launch included policymakers, government officials, academia, development partners, donors, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), and representatives from the private sector.

The Action Plan addresses various overarching issues, such as youth involvement and leveraging the digital revolution to tackle the country's food and land use challenges. Solutions and proposals for addressing Kenya's challenges have been formulated based on a comprehensive review of the legal, policy, regulatory, and institutional framework. These recommendations are the result of consultations with stakeholders, including various counties. The report puts forth evidence-based priorities, the implementation of which could significantly contribute to establishing a sustainable food and land use system in Kenya.
