WHY ARE RANGELANDS IMPORTANT: WHO IS RESPONSIBLE

Carolyne Kyalo from LARMAT, University of Nairobi and Dr. Klerkson Lugusa from United States International University Africa (USIU) facilitated a training on Rangeland Inventory, Assessment and Monitoring to Masaai Mara Wildlife Conservancy Association technical staff. The staff heads various dockets such as Natural Resource Management, gender and enterprises, education, Climate change, governance and to monitoring and evaluation. Carolyne took the participants through the training expectations and emphasized that they should aim to know: • Why is Rangeland inventory, Assessment and Inventory (RIMA) important? • Who has an expertise on RIAM? Who to make a decision? In addition, who benefits from sustainable RIMA? • What to determine, what species, soil types and what parameters to check in Rangelands • How to determine the parameters? • Which methods to be used for Rangeland analysis?
