RAISING CLIMATE AMBITIONS FOR LAND BASED MITIGATION EU- LANDMARC REGIONAL STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP

University of Nairobi student, LARMAT Alumni and Staff at the workshop

Staff, Students and LARMAT Alma Mater on 21st November 2021 participated in the EU- LANDMARC Regional Stakeholder Workshop, held at ICRAF headquarters Kenya. The regional stakeholder’s engagement organized by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) focused on enriching understanding of land-based mitigation technologies (LMTs), practices, and their contribution towards High ambitions to reduce global warming by 1.50c.

Some of key LMTS discussed were, Afforestation, Reforestation, Agroforestry, Biochar, Bio energy with carbon capture and storage, no tillage

The information was gathered through semi-structured interviews 1) to discuss LMTs Barriers, Enablers, Opportunities, challenges, and the need to address the challenges associated with implementation of LMTs. The Stakeholders were further tasked to discuss the strongest qualifier for adoption LMTs with emphasis on how to be implemented, who to implement, any barrier for adoption and how to overcome the barriers.

The formal governance, mechanisms, and research and technology transfer were among the key categories discussed, several participants from University of Nairobi were in attendance. From LARMAT, Stephen Tirop and Carolyne Kyalo participated. Ms. Kyalo chaired and presented key results for one of the semi-structured stakeholder’s discussions.
