Dr. Staline Kibet participated in the Launch of Woody Weeds + supporting the implementation of the National Prosopis Strategy in Kenya at KEFRI, Muguga. The project expected outcome includes;
- To support the establishment of a governance system and institutional arrangements that link actors across different decision-making levels. WW+ will help institutions, at the national, sub-national and local levels, to concretise and operationalise the NPS by developing spatially explicit Prosopis management strategies and integrate them in land use, land restoration or integrated development plans.
- To raise awareness among stakeholders about the long-term impacts of Prosopis invasion and accelerate the dissemination of adequate knowledge for its efficient, effective and context-spe-cific management. By empowering national and county coordinators, as well as champions at local level, we hope to achieve additional leverage for a systematic implementation of the NPS in the target area.
- To provide a significant momentum for a broad implementation of Prosopis management by pio-neering strategies in test areas and bringing on board land users. A monitoring system will be implemented for evaluating the long-term impacts of the NPS.
- To find innovative financing mechanisms through funds and impact investment and to secure the long-term sustainability of Prosopis management.
