ANNUAL HERD HEALTH FIELD TRAINING AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH , KIBWEZI

Annually, the Department of Clinical Studies (CSD) organizes a herd health field training and community outreach camp within Kibwezi Sub-County, Makueni County. The purpose of the exercise is to provide experiential training and practical skills to BVM students as well as offering free herd health services such as deworming, treatment and consultancy to the local community farmers neighboring the University’s Kibwezi Field Station Farm. The program is a mandatory examinable practical exercise within the curriculum for all BVM Year 5 students.

Experiential training for students in the Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) is part of the mode of delivery for all degree programmes courses offered in the Department. As part of this requirement, over 40 Post graduate and Undergraduate students actively participated on a field excursion in the landscapes of Maasai Mara ecosystems. The event took place on 15th and 16th March, 2024.

RANGE PROJECT- PhD AND MSC OPPORTUNITIES

CALL FOR APPLICATION - RANGE PROJECT PHD AND MSC POSITIONS

RANGE (Resilient Approaches in Natural ranGeland Ecosystems) is a new five-year project (2024-2028) funded by the Dutch Embassy in Kenya. It aims to strengthen the resilience of communities in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) in the Isiolo, Marsabit and Samburu counties. This will be achieved through multiple interventions and capacity building activities. The aim is to improve rangeland management, sustainable production methods, strengthened government structures, and better-informed decision making through research and resulting evidence.

LARMAT SCOOPS THE BEST OVERALL POSTER IN THE AGRO- CONFERENCE 2023

On 26th October, 2023 Ms. Margeret Nyaga, a PhD student (Range Management) from the Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), University of Nairobi, presented a poster entitled “Rangeland restoration for resilient livelihoods through Livestock Cafés in the drylands of East Africa” during the AGRO-CONFERENCE 2023 organized by the Faculty of Agriculture. She was awarded as the best overall poster presenter.
