INCEPTIONS MEETING ON AHRC-ARID ETHNO-FORESTRY PROJECT

Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) on Friday, 15th , 2021 attended an inception meeting on a new upcoming project on Arid Ethno-Forestry (AEF) food systems. Dr. Koech from LARMAT and Dr. Kiemo Kiratu from school of Social sciences are the PIs from Kenya in the project. The project seeks to address the Novel and sustainable food alternatives that are necessary to tackle the global challenges of climate change which imparts on resilience to communities using participatory approaches to understanding the systems in the drylands. The project is a multidisciplinary team and will be implemented in Kenya, Tanzania, Mexico and the UK. The activities proposed in the project fit with the strategies, expertise and capability of the institutions involved to undertakes fundamental and transformative research to enhance the welfare of the indigenous and rural societies of Mexico, Kenya and Tanzania. It will contribute to the generation of new trans-disciplinary scientists in UK, Mexico, Kenya and Tanzania. The research model will be used to sustainably manage other Mexican and African arid food systems for the benefit of the communities in these regions.
