Dr. Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) between 6th- 10th Dec, 2021 participated in the National Sensitization workshop on Mainstreaming Climate Smart Agriculture Frameworks and Technologies in the Practices of Range Management and Pastoralism in ASAL areas of Kenya organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and cooperatives, State Department for Livestock. Efforts have been made to recast national development strategies that recognize the enormous contribution of ASALs to national development as stipulated in several policies and development plans. However, it is recognized that due to the previous neglect of the region, there is need for increased focus and accelerated investment in the ASALs if all Kenyans are to have equal chance in sharing the promise of our Constitution, the Vision 2030.
This platform contributed to this efforts. Dr. Koech Presented on 'Threats of Invasive Species – Control and Management in Rangelands amidst Climate Change impacts' to participants from ASAL counties of West Pokot, Baringo, Isiolo, TaitaTaveta, Narok, Laikipia, Marsabit, Kajiado, and Garissa. The National Sensitization workshop on Mainstreaming was to support on prevailing climate Smart Agriculture Frameworks and Technologies in the Practices of Range Management and Pastoralism in ASAL areas of Kenya.
