Dr.SM Mureithi of Department of LARMAT, University of Nairobi accompanied by the Country Director of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Suisse (VSF-Suisse) ,(Kenya and Somalia) and Eric Rosana of VSF-Suisse Kenya are on a four day (from 2nd November, 2020) scoping mission in Samburu County in preparation for the start of implementating the “Building Drought Resilience in Samburu Through Sustainable Rangelands Management (DR-SRM) Project. The two-year project is funded by Biovision Foundation (BV) and implemented by VSF-Suisse in Samburu East Sub-County, Samburu County. VSF-Suisse is collaborating with the University of Nairobi as a technical partner in the implementation of the project, and the County Government of Samburu through the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. Others in the technical support team from the University of Nairobi include Prof. George Gitau and Dr. Oscar Koech.
The project’s development goal is to contribute to enhanced resilience of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in northern Kenya to drought and other shocks.
The project purpose is “restored rangelands result in increased livestock productivity, increased incomes and enhanced resilience to drought and other shocks for pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in Samburu County”.
