The Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi, has welcomed fourteen researchers and technical officers from the Agricultural Research Institute of Mozambique (IIAM) for an intensive one Month capacity-building programme titled “Integrated Climate-Smart Agriculture: Building Resilience Through Soil, Water and Data-Driven Insights.” The initiative is being implemented through a strategic partnership involving the Agricultural Research Institute of Mozambique (IIAM), the Post-Cyclone Idai Reconstruction Cabinet (GREPOC), and the University of Nairobi, with support from the African Development Bank.

The programme reflects a shared commitment by the three institutions to strengthen agricultural resilience, enhance human and institutional capacity, and support sustainable recovery and development pathways in Mozambique through science, innovation, and practical skills development. By bringing together expertise from Kenya and Mozambique, the training seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to respond to climate-related challenges affecting agricultural production and natural resource management across the region.

The programme was officially opened by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Moses Nyangito, who emphasized the importance of regional collaboration among African institutions. Speaking during the opening session, Prof. Onwonga, Chairman of LARMAT and Project/Training Coordinator, noted that the programme was deliberately designed to move participants beyond conventional training approaches and equip them with the capacity to solve complex agricultural problems through multidisciplinary analysis and evidence-based decision-making.
