LARMAT STAFF PARTICIPATION IN AGRIFOSE'S END-OF-PROJECT WORKSHOP

Dr. Staline Kibet, TRAMAP project team member, explaining the effects of land degradation in Kenyan rangelands during the AgriFoSe2030’s exhibition.

The TRAMAP Project Team participated in AgriFoSe2030's end-of-programme workshop held at the Park Inn Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi on 13th-15th Nov. 2023. TRAMAP is a science-based and co-produced transformative Rangeland Management Practices initiative, with its primary focus being gendered rangeland ecosystem restoration for resilient pastoralist livelihoods. During the workshop, the project team shared their experiences addressing significant threats to the arid rangelands of Samburu County.

These threats included encroachment by problematic woody plants, pasture scarcity resulting from land degradation, and deforestation around urban centers due to an increased demand for charcoal and construction materials. The TRAMAP project was part of AgriFoSe2030's Challenge 2, which concentrated on supporting climate adaptation, soil management, and the diversity of plant and animal species. The overarching goal was to ensure sustainable farm productivity and enhance the resilience of smallholders.
