Dr. Fredrick Wangombe, an experienced regional expertin feed ration formulation and feed processing at both small scale and large commercial feed manufacturing had the opportunity to contribute to regional feed production by training Ms. Manirakiza Isidonieand Mr. Nimbona Felix, from Burundi, the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock and National Veterinary Laboratorywho are undergoing a one month experiential training at the Department of Land Resource Management and department of animal production, in the faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi. Dr. Wangombe provided practical feed formulation and industrial feed processing to the fellows.
This will greatly contribute to Burundi developing their feed sector amidst the increasing feed shortage as a result of climate change and variability, with the increasing human population constraining the limited feed resources. Dr. Oscar Koech, a feed production, utilization and conservation expert, the host to the fellows, also provided intensive training on sustainable feed production and utilization with climate smart approaches and technologies to adapt communities to the changing climatic conditions.
