DOES RANGELAND MANAGEMENT HAS IMPACT ON FOOD SECURITY

Dr.Oscar Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN), Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) provided a talk during a webinar organized by Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) in relation to Covid -19 and other Health issues. Dr. Koech provided a talk on Rangelands in the Wake of Climate Change: Need for Research and Innovations for Sustainable Rangelands Productivity.

This was an interesting session that recognizes the need for multi-disciplinary approaches to suitable development in Africa, recognizing the important roles of the rangelands as critical ecosystems of the world, contributing to food and nutritional security. AFROHUN has the vision to create the kind of network that brings together universities to build their capacity for One Health teaching attracting attention of more One Health actors. AFROHUN, contributes to designing training programs that build competences in One Health, retooling teachers to deliver competence-based education, reviewing and designing curricula and programs that integrate One Health, creating spaces for students to fully participate in designing their multi-disciplinary learning platforms, creating partnerships for greater impact and engaging governments for policy influence with focus on Covid-19.

Dr. Koech had the opportunity to provide the talk as subject matter expert in rangelands and pastoral livelihoods, working in support to sustainable production systems in the wake of climate change, which needs more of systemic thinking and one health approaches.
