On January 18, 2024 Dr. Anton Vrieling and Lisette Muelman from University of Twente (ITC) visited the Department of LARMAT. The guest had a discussion with the Chairman Prof. Richard Onwonga and Prof. Oliver Vivian Wasonga on possible partnership within the framework of a new project: Resilience Approaches in Natural Rangeland Ecosystems' (RANGE). The project is financed by the Dutch Embassy, and focuses on enhancing rangelands and pastoralists resilience in the Counties Isiolo, Marsabit, and Samburu. Mercy Corps is leading the collaborative project in partnership with ITC and Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC).

The purpose of the visit was part of an effort to create linkages and explore entry points for collaboration in research and training with various institutions ahead of the project’s implementation. ITC will lead the research component, including longitudinal in-situ data collection and capacity building, with multiple PhD and MSc students from the three Counties in northern Kenya having the opportunity to partially study at ITC while working in Kenya on the project
