Regional scholarship team visit to GIS lab , LARMAT

The University of Nairobi fraternity on Wednesday 10th April 2019 overwhelmingly welcomed ICIPE evaluation team spearheading avenues for partnership in PASET-RSIF African Host University. This was as a result of grant fund applied on capacity building of several post graduate programmes offered within the institution. The intended grant will be supported by the PASET Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (RSIF) and will have a direct support to the PhD in Drylands Resource Management offered in this department. LARMAT was privileged to host the evaluation team. ICIPE team met various faculty members, students and other stakeholders. A discussion was rolled out with adequate experience sharing tailored to the proposed grant. The University of Nairobi is seeking for the opportunity to be a PASET-RSIF African Host University. The visiting evaluation team had fruitful deliberations and identified the need to strengthen the regional programme that’s has the following objectives;

  • To develop cadre of high level dryland specialists in academia, research and policy.
  • To enhance sustainable productivity of natural resources through improved management.
  • To develop guidelines and information tools on suitable dryland resource use and management for sustainability.
  • To inform policy processes using empirical evidence for decisions.

Some of facillities visited in LARMAT were, Watershed and hydrology lab and GIS Lab.
