As part of building expertise in geospatial technology, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) in collaboration with ESRI hosted one-day Jumpstart Training on “Introduction to the ArcGIS Platform and WebGIS”. The intensive training was conducted on 21st April, 2017 at the Department of Land Resources Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) GIS lab. The entire program was coordinated by Prof. Charles Gachene assisted by Carolyne Kyalo, Annerose Mwangi, Martha Kimani from LARMAT and Peter Wangome from African Drylands Institute for Sustainability (ADIS). The training was officially opened by Prof. John Kimenju, Dean, and Faculty of Agriculture.

It was a diverse programme drawing participants from various disciplines and professions. Most of departments within CAVS were well represented and over 25 participant’s

both staff and students are now acquitted with GIS skills. Among the distinguished participants was Prof. Eunice Mutitu, former director, board of postgraduate studies (BPS).

GIS training programme is part of Center for Agricultural Networking and Information Sharing (CANIS) on promoting University of Nairobi wide data sharing efforts
