CAVS principal with beneficiary students and  their mentors

The Principal CAVS, Prof. Kiama Gitahi, occasioned three Post Graduate Students for 5 months Exchange Program in Jagiellonian University, Poland on 27th February, 2017.  This exchange is under the auspices of the Mobility for Learners and Staff programme under ERASMUS+ Key Action 1, supporting an Inter-Institutional Agreement between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Jagiellonian University in Krakow (UJ) for both students and staff to strengthen research capacity, and international partnership and cooperation. Through this program, the students are expected to internationally network, complete their MSc theses and scientific publications, develop preliminary PhD concepts, in addition to peer-learning and international culture. In his remarks, Professor Kiama encouraged students to establish great and long-term mentorship in consequent to PhD supervision. “Ensure you achieve your goals and utilize the time adequately”, He added.

The competitively selected MSc students are, Ms.Bernice Mereina and Mr..illary Rotich from Department of LARMAT and Mr..Harrison Simotwo from the School of Biological Sciences, Chiromo Campus. The session was crowned by the ERASMUS+ Programme Coordinators, Dr. Stephen Mureithi and Dr. Judith Mbau, both researchers and lecturers at LARMAT, and Prof. Jesse Njoka, Director, African Dryland Institute for Sustainability (ADIS).

Others were Prof. John Kimenju, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof.Geoffrey Kironchi, Chairman, LARMAT and Peter Wekesa, College Registrar, CAVS.

ERASMUS+ KA Programme will also support both Academic and Administration Staff exchange between the two universities for the year 2016-2018.
