Range Scientist from the University of Nairobi, Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES ), Dr. Koech Oscar, Dr. Mureithi Stephen and Mr. Peter Kamande implemented a rangeland reseeding training and field reseeding exercise in Isiolo County, on October 20th-24th 2015 at Barambate Pastroral Group. This was in preparation for the anticipated short rainfall period and elnino in quest to increase animal forage and reduce land degradation.
The other partner involved were the ministry of livestock and fisheries represented by Mr. Kirimi and Mr. Hache The participation of the local communities and group members was excellent and it is expected to be a success when the rains come. This activity is under the project on “Enhancing Resilience of Livestock-based Livelihoods in Northern Kenya” is a partnership initiative between the University of Nairobi’s (UoN) Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES), Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Marsabit and community based institutions, including Pastoralist Community Initiative Development and Assistance (PACIDA) and County governments of Marsabit and Isiolo. The project is funded by IGAD under the applied research for development in drylands fund.
