UON LECTURERS PARTICIPATES IN THE ERASMUS+ INTERUNIVERSITY MOBILITY PROGRAMME AND JU’S INTERNATIONAL PARTNER’S DAYS AT JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY IN KRAKOW, POLAND

Dr S. Mureithi and Dr. S. Mbau  exhibiting for UON at Poland

Dr. Stephen Mureithi and Dr Judith Mbau of the University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) on n  November 21st-29th, 2017  visited Jagiellonian University in Krakow under the auspices of the EU ERASMUS+ Mobility for Higher Education Students and Staff. The programme aims at initiating North-South cooperation between institutions of higher learning. Within this programme, University of Nairobi is cooperating with Jagiellonian University through staff and student mobility starting the Spring term 2016/2017. University of Nairobi has already sent three students to JU, one administrator (Professor Kiama Gitahi, Principal - College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences) and two Faculty (Dr. Mureithi and Dr. Mbau). Likewise, Jagiellonian University will send to UoN two administrators and two professors from JU. Mobility for staff will be 5 days while that of students will last for 5 months.

 

During the visit, Dr. Mureithi and Dr Mbau gave a lecture titled “Enhancing the resilience of drylands through rangelands rehabilitation’’ and “Human-wildlife conflicts: Causes and management options in the African Context”, respectively, to Master’s students at the Institute of Environmental Sciences. They were also engaged with discussions with the Students Association as well as a visit to various laboratories and research groups within the institute. In addition, they participated at the JU’s International Partnership Days at Auditorium Maximum hosted by the International Office. Here, they had a stand representing the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Mureithi say “It was spectacular to visit JU to a warm reception of the staff and students at the Institute of Environmental Studies and the International Office. We were able to make various contacts and we look forward to pursuing these for various collaborations in the near future. Krakow is a beautiful historical City and our days there were remarkable. We look forward to also host the Jagiellonian University staff in the coming months”.
