Staff and students from various departments at the University of Nairobi attended open data workshop conducted on 4th and 5th October, 2017 at University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS). Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology was represented by Prof. Charles Gachene, Dr. Oscar Koech, Dr. Anne Karuma. Ms Carolyne Kyalo and a post graduate student Ms. Anne rose Mwangi.

The aim of workshop was to create an understanding of the opportunities those data sets, in their open form presents, and to equip the participants with an understanding of how to initiate the process of opening data sets for the creation of new knowledge through data curation.

Target participants were researchers and academics from Kenya. Among the representing organizations were Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KARLO), Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), World Agroforestry (ICRAF), Internal Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) , Ministry of planning and development,

Pwani University, Kenyatta University, Karatina University, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.

The workshop was organised by the University of Nairobi’s, Center for Agricultural Networking and Information Sharing (CANIS) in collaboration with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).
