Dr. Koech Oscar and two post graduate students Patricia Liuza Njeri and Eric Omollo from the University of Nairobi, department of LARMAT attended a four day retreat organized by the Ministry Of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, rangeland management division, with the support of USAID, AHADI programme. The retreat objective was to prepare a strategic planning document for the rangelands of Kenya to be shared with the Arid and Semi Arid counties for adoption and implementation in their County Integrated Development Plans CIDPs for the sustainable rangeland resource management. The participants were from diverse institutions; MOALF-SDL, University of Nairobi, DRSRS,KALRO, Kenya Water Towers, Ministry of Water and Irrigation and Maseno University. The retreat was done between 12th and 15th June 2017.

The retreats outputs were;

  1. A comprehensive retreat report for all the 4 days activities and achievements
  2. A strategic plan/road map for sustainable rangeland management in Kenyan rangelands
  3. The way forward on the registration of a Rangeland Management Society of Kenya
