KIBWEZI HORTIPRENEUR YOUTH GROUP (KHYG) - THE ARM FOR UNIVERSITY OUTREACH AND COOPERATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Kibwezi Hortipreneur Youth Group (KHYG) is an IITA initiative funded by the African Development Bank and IFAD is currently conducting Agribusiness farming at, UoN Kibwezi Dryland farm. The youth group consists of graduates from different fields mainly within Makueni County. Since 2015- to date, the youth have been carrying out agricultural/Horticultural entrepreneurship training and incubation activities in the said station through mentorship of Prof. Nancy Karanja (LARMAT, UON) and Dr. Paul Woomer (IITA).

Some of activities are;

  1. Iron/Zn common Beans farming
  2. Cassava farming
  3. Purple-fleshed sweet potato farming
  4. Spinach farming
  5. Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes
  6. Tomato plants within a greenhouse
  7. Fish Pond farming
